Please help! I am a staunch liberal and absolutely abhor Alex Jones because of how he brainwashed my friend Steve into anything he says. I know Steve has the capacity to give me some lengthy conversations about politics that I can enjoy, but he's just so gullible about any sensationalist thing he hears if it's scary and has dramatic video/audio. e.g. the whole 2012 Mayan-End-Of-The-World scare that I'll be laughing about in 2013.
At one point, I was able to wrest Steve from the grasp of pundits like Alex Jones, encouraging him to think for himself. Steve was doing pretty good, making his own decisions. Up until now.
Steve just told me about the "Obama Deception" video and how Obama's evil and whatnot. Even extreme conservatives are rational and know Obama has only been in the office for only ~100 days. (Not that conservatives aren't rational, just that they have different opinions than liberals for the most part.) First Alex Jones gets all Mr. Conspiracy with G.W Bush and now it's Obama? He's just desperate for shock/scare ratings any way he can get them, it seems.
I am asking you for help as to how I can get Steve's intellectual spine back from Alex Jones. Any ideas? Any would be appreciated. It took all the willpower I could muster restraining from using a few expletives about Alex Jones to tell you the truth.
Hi, Dave. I think the best thing to do is maybe find videos and websites that are critical of Alex Jones (but those who you find rational, because as you know, many people on both sides can try to argue things without using logic.)
If this person is the type of person who plugs his ears and only wait s for his turn to talk (ie. doesn't actively listen) then I don't know that there IS hope for him.
